I know that I am not a personal trainer or fitness expert but I firmly believe a sport that will help get new moms' tummies back in shape is horseback riding. I've been eating 1200 calories for 9 months, hiking, walking, and doing kickboxing. As the weight has been shaved off it continues to still be flabby in my stomach. I do think part of that is genetics, my Mom is extremely petite and in excellent shape. She does Yoga and water aerobics everyday. Before her back got back she was on a rigorous exercise plan. In fact, she used to be an aerobics instructor. What do you think that even on a 5'1", 115 lb. lady has not gone away? (She would be the first to admit it so it's not like I'm a terrible daughter announcing it on a national website!). Her stomach even to this day has a pouch. No matter what kind of exercise she has done it will just not go away. I have been the same, thus far. However, both my husband, father-in-law, and myself have noticed that I have abs again. I do still have a pouch but it appears to be getting slightly smaller. I believe 100% that this is due to horseback riding after only a month and a half of lessons (typically once or twice a week). If you have the money after having a baby I recommend trying it! You work all of these muscles while riding: thighs, caves, arms, hands, back, shoulders, butt, and abdominals. it takes great strength, balance, and control to be able to post correctly on a horse and especially so you don't fall off!!! Just walking your horse for an hour you can burn anywhere from 300-600 calories depending on your weight. Evidence? Other than walking and hiking this summer I've spent a lot of time riding and this past month I lost 2 inches in my abdomen!
